I recently called Big Chicken Barn to discuss helping the local community and helping with our next generation of book enthusiasts, however, the women that answered was incredibly rude and hung up the phone stating "she's done with the conversation." This was one of the worst experiences I've had communicating with anyone, business or not. Highly recommend spending your money elsewhere due to the very inconsiderate communication she provides. My suggestion? Allow people to complete their sentence, please.

This place is huge and packed. The entire top floor is full of books. Great selection of antique collectibles. You can walk around for hours. The prices are a bit high for what you get. The place smells like mold so I really couldn't be in there long. It is definitely worth a visit. People are nice and there is tons of parking.

Just no. While there were some great antiques, they were priced as if eBay didn't exists. Magazines that they have 7 copies of, each $7. Also- if you are a true collector, prices here deserve clear providence. I found a lot of inconsistencies "hand made antique blah"; with clear machined edges, not hand created edges. I would skip this.

Overpriced. You can spend half your Saturday walking through this place because of how big it is but it will take you all day to find something that is priced to sell/buy. Seems like every booth has a percent off sign that doesn't necessarily get marked down at the registers but the people there are so grouchy at that point you will just want to get out of there.
Overall a fun experience until you have to pay the bill and deal with the people that work here. They only occupy two floors (one is books and magazines) instead of the 8 or whatever it looks like from the outside. Bring a snack with you if you go in, you will get hangry halfway through.

Tons of antiques and books. Fun place to stop at as they have a huge variety of everything. Antiques are sold in different booths, so prices, quality, and items vary. Most are on the expensive side. A lot of antiques are 20 percent off. Their second floor has many books. Books are well organized. There is something for everyone!

The BCB is a very nice place. It contains two of my favorite things: books and antiques! There are old books for everyone.town reports, Maine history, ephemera, yearbooks, and tons more! The entire second floor is old books and old magazines and advertising, too! The first floor's two wings are entirely antique booths. I've gotten many a good find from BCB when I am in the area.
I stay in Bangor sometimes and whenever I do I always make sure I travel south to Ellsworth to visit the BCB. Staff could be a bit friendlier, but other than that I love the store. Prices are reasonable as well.

After driving HOURS on the road. This is the kind of place you would LOVE to visit! It practically has EVERYTHING you can think of! From vintage furniture's to Billy's buck knife who once caught a fish with! I felt like a child coming in to a place of nostalgia. Simply the things you grew up with and learning about things that was before your time! I wish we had more places like this! Like they say! "One man's trash is another man's treasure!"

In time of Covid- 19, I have planned a Micro Tour for Next year 2021 with the hope that this horrible pandemic will be over. On the way back from Acadia National park to New York City, We stopped at this amazing, once of a life time Book and Antique Store. I have been in the traveling business for quite a long time and I have never seen anything like it.
The store is like a museum, well organized and you can find almost anything you want. 5 Stars out of 5. By Emmanuel Hadar a Professional Tour Guide licensed in N.Y.C and Washington D.C.

We had fun! Very fair prices compared to what we see at home in SC and NC. Really quirky and eclectic selection! I don't much care for ritzy antiques, I love the strange and unusual and there was plenty of that here. Really enjoyed this experience and I am a very experienced vintage, thrift and antique shopper. My husband found fantasy books from his favorite author no longer in print.

This is a huge place. If you're into vintage books or magazine you will find it here. Their vintage magazine collections is extensive. I'm a collector of food ads and they have plentiful here. It's a little pricey but all collectibles are. Besides you'll find other antiques and vintage offerings here. Check them out!

This place goes on.and on.and on. So many different things you didn't know you needed. Lots of books but not well organized. When I asked the man at the front desk if he recommended on local writer over another, he refused to give me his opinion and acted like I was bothering him. Really? You work in a place that sells books but you won't give your opinion? Whatever. Still, there is a lot of stuff here so plan to spend some time browsing.

Awesomely huge and impressive antique barn mall. It is an old chicken coop that is now an antique mall. The first level is all antiques and the entire second level is all books. They have complete sections of books by Grisham and other prominent authors. The book selection is incredible. The staff is very nice and friendly. They have a few locked cases, but most of the antiques are out to look at. It is quite dark in the bottom section with the antiques, there are no windows. The book area has windows and is good for reading. Check it out.

This is one of the places I remembered very vividly from my childhood in Maine and was very happy to come back to it now. As with any antique store there are things that are trash of course. But as the saying goes one (wo)mans trash is another (wo)mans treasure. I picked up a fenton milk glass bowl in the prettiest blue you had ever seen, some little random ornate looking box a lapis ring that was in no way shape or form an antique but still cool, a pretty little teapot and some other knick-knacks. If your looking for lots of high quality antiques this is not your place. Some random funky junk? Then it absolutely is!
