I feel the need to write a review to help people know what this is and what it's not. This is an antique store specializing in nautical items. It has real nautical equipment stuff that has been or belongs on real ships. There are plaques, clocks, lights, compass, windows, harpoons, bells, think heavy brass items that will last forever. You find stuff that was really used in battle of a major vessel. brass steering wheel, real paddles, think of the queen Mary and that's the kind of stuff you'll find.
Most of this stuff should be in a museum. The items are used so they may need a good cleaning. But there are definitely treasures in here. However everything is priced accordingly so the owner knows what he has and will not negotiate much. This place IS for very specific clientele even though it doesn't seem like many come through. It is NOT a tourist shop of souvenirs nor does it have any sea shells. It is not a stop to kill time kinda place.

I've driven by this place a million times and wanted to go in but it was never open. I finally made it in but I don't think I'll go back. The owner, rude from the beginning became annoyed when it became clear that my friend and I weren't going to drop 6k on an antique diving helmet, so we skedaddled out of there pretty quickly. TL;DR: cool stuff, rude guy

I've lived in Huntington Beach my whole life and have always driven by this shop. I went in for the first time to try to find a nautical gift for my father in law as he loves boating. I walked in, said Hi to the man behind the counter, and before I have a chance to even glance at anything he rudely said under his breath "If you're not going to buy anything you can just leave." I'm a young petite woman, so feeling extremely uncomfortable I got out of there as quickly as I could.
Aside from wondering if this man was "all there", I no longer wanted to spend my money at this store. I gave this review one star because I personally think it's unacceptable for a business to treat its potential customers like that, especially when they're doing what you want to be doing. shopping. Maybe the store itself deserved more stars but I really didn't get a chance to even look at anything before getting mildly berated by an old man. Nobody's got time for that. Thought this report might be helpful for someone, I'd recommend probably going someplace else. These stores are a dime a dozen in SoCal.

Fantastic store, lots of unique nautical finds. Everything you want from a nautical antique store, we found some great lights and old pulleys for a future project. We loved visiting the store and the owner was very friendly and helpful. I wouldn't want to get on the old captain's bad side, but he was really sweet to us and showed us everything we were interested in. We learned a ton and had a great time shopping.

I agree with the other one star reviewer. Be prepared for the most rude owner you will ever experience. My elderly grandpa and I came in here to look and my grandpa needed to use a restroom as the one around the corner was being renovated. The owner said and I quote, "we don't have a public restroom here, get in your car and drive down the street. I'm interested in your money." I kid you not he said that.
Then as we left he said be sure to come back and I assured him that won't be happening. He literally turned down an elderly man who needed a restroom who was also planning on being a customer. Why? I have no idea. That's the kind of owner this guy is.

This place has some really fantastic pieces. You can tell the owner takes pride in his collection (as is reflected in the sticker prices on everything). He takes time to really clean and polish all of the items up. He opened the doors to us after hours when we gave the door a knock. We walked away with a small brass item for our new home so I am pleased. Prices are negotiable.

This is a hard review for me. I'm not an antique aficionado, much less a nautical antique zealot, so there wasn't much for me to purchase. Yes, there are tons of interesting things to look at -- expensive things (at least to me, a person who doesn't collect these types of items). I feel that if you're looking for a nautical piece to finish a room or want a cool conversation starter, this is the place to go. Or, maybe you're a water/boat/pirate nut and want to surround yourself with a bunch of unique memorabilia.
This would be the place for you! I came in here with a friend who wanted to buy a gift for another friend. He found what he wanted, and the guy loved the present (he lives on a boat, so.). We also spent a good deal of time just walking around and taking in all the sights. It definitely an interesting stop on a lazy Saturday afternoon.

My wife and I visited Antiques of the Sea on a totally spur of the moment detour south on PCH from a visit to the USS Iowa battleship in San Pedro. After driving through the only scary/sketchy part of PCH (in Long Beach) in its 710 mile length from Dana Point to Leggett, CA north of San Fran, we stopped at uber quintessential California beach town Sunset Beach to check it out.
We were greeted by "Captain" Eric Bakker, proprietor of said establishment. He looks the part, with a middle Euro accent and a white beard, he could be a salty seaman from the days of the tall ships, or Ernest Hemingway's brother. The place is loaded with old brass instruments, portholes, ship's wheels, compasses, telescopes, ship models, even the wooden figurehead of an old sailing ship, if it's nautical this place seems to have it.
Pretty much any kind of marine artifact a sea-obsessed landlubber could want to decorate their den. Capt. Bakker was charming and good humored, so I bought a brass sign for the door of the head on my boat. It says "Poop Deck." If you don't get the humor, you are not a sailor. Prices are not cheap, but since this is OC and the location is on PCH just blocks from the beach, I don't think anyone can reasonably criticize that. Enjoy a visit next time you're in north Orange County and make your condo look like the captain's cabin of the Cutty Sark!
