Something of Value opened its doors in Emeryville, California December, 1991. The initial focus was antiques and collectibles. In 2000 the 1st line of African American collectibles was introduced. The store continued to grow into the line of African American collectibles and is now the biggest retail business specifically focusing on African American collectibles in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Something of Value is committed to bringing merchandise that reflects African Americans and work by African Americans to the community. Through activities in the store, we have hosted various venues to provide connections to the community e.g.
Love is the third and final figure in the three-year Members Only series called The Virtues. The ornament depicts the young girl tenderly holding her peace dove, signifying the essential nature of love in the hearts of humankind. Deerly Loved 2008 Annual Ornament Third in the six-year Comfort and Joy annual ornament series.
