Opened on Baltimore's Historic Antique Row in 1976 by Frederick, Nancy & Patrick Duggan, Imperial Half Bushel was a shop specializing in antique and estate silver. Much of our stock celebrates the heritage of silver production in Baltimore including examples of the repousse designs made famous by Samuel Kirk, Andrew E. Warner, and the later generations of manufacturing silversmiths that finally concluded with the closing of Kirk-Stieff Inc. a few years ago.We also have other American silver as well as a small but often interesting group of foreign silver.
Services
The Repouss Index will contain Baltimore made holloware and dresserware that is decorated with floral and/or landscape repouss decoration. Examples of the floral decorated flatware will also be listed in this index but will generally be restricted to services, serving pieces and unusual place pieces.
If you have questions about one or more of the examples offered for sale at this site please e-mail ihb@imperialhalfbushel.com or call our shop Monday thru Saturday 10:30am-5pm (Eastern time) at (410) 462-1192 (open in August by appointment or chance). We can take additional digital photos and e-mail them to you along with any other information that you may need.
The Baltimore City Assay Office and Marks are of particular interest to us. We will be putting a short listing of the marks in our article section; for a fuller description and explanation of the reasoning in reassigning the dating that was published in Pleasants & Sill Maryland Silversmiths 1715-1830 (Lord Baltimore Press, 1930) please read the article "Marks on Baltimore Silver 1814-1860: An Exploration" by Patrick M. Duggan appearing in Silver in Maryland (Maryland Historical Society, 1983).
