In 2004, after twelve fairy-tale years in Madison, my husband's job brought us to Kansas City, Missouri. Here we responded to an increased demand for yarn, ribbons, beads and IDEAS. People began coming to Florilegium for inspiration. Every day they asked "how did you do that" or "where do you come up with all these ideas?".
This is a water-soluble stabilizer that comes in two parts. The first is a white, fabric-like paper with a sticky side that is protected by a glossy, brown, sheet. The second is a transparent sheet that will lie on top to make stitching a breeze. Freelace paper is used to hold fibers, ribbons, fabrics, feathers, (or anything else that can be stitched or rinsed) until they can be stitched together into a unique piece of lace or fabric. It will allow you to create the airiest lace or more opaque, multi-faceted fabrics.
After totally overwhelming myself with ideas and projects - to the point of paralysis - I realized that I have always had the power to return to a calm and organized existence. One small step at a time. The freeform piece tacked to the wall, right where I sit at my desk, everyday, has been clogging my chi.
We use ribbons for so many projects ranging from picture frames to ribbon embroidery. Florilegium has many styles and brands including picot, lace, silk, grow-grain, silk-satin, bias cut silk, brocade, wow I cannot name them all. Hand dyed and hand painted ribbons to match your creative fire. Some of our selection is for sale on this web site but there are so many we cannot list them all.

The most beautiful and amazing local yarn store I have ever been inside of. It's so gorgeous that it feels too simplified to call it a yarn store. It's like a magical place when you step inside where color is everywhere and so much for your eyes to feast upon! Fred and Gretchen own it, and Cathy helps them run it. Between the three of them, they always make you feel like you are part of their family even if its your first time arriving there.
I have never been at a yarn store where no matter how busy they are, they are THIS nice about winding your yarn that you bought. even when they are super busy! I could spend days in this store. And the prices? It looks expensive but there is actually so much for lower price points. Gretchen does an amazing job with the place. She is a true artist herself.

Great source for creative supplies and inspiration! I don't do needlecraft, knitting, beadwork, or fiber arts, but I still found this shop to be an amazing and inspiring place. Located in a brick building towards the low end of Weston's main street, it's chock full of hand-dyed yarn of every color and description, all kinds and colors of thread, ribbon, buttons, strings of beads, a rainbow of jars of individual glass beads, precious stones, felted balls, ingredients for marbling, books, patterns, project kits, and I'm sure multitudes of other products I can't recall or didn't even see.
This place is craftsy, artsey, and fun! Just visiting this store was a booster shot of creative energy, as I found myself trying to come up with uses for some of the amazing items here in my own creative projects. A wall hanging visible just off Florilegium's main show room seemed to sum the place up nicely: "It seems as if only magic could have gathered this mass of wealth of all ends of the earth." While they only sell the raw supplies, they also display some amazing examples of completed creative projects, including three cases at the front of the store, a couple more in the back room, a fiber dragon hanging over the door to the back room, an amazing antique quilt hanging near the register, and other projects hanging or displayed throughout the store.
They also offer classes on a variety of topics including: jewelry making, paper clay, velvet garlands, embellished trinket boxes, art dolls, rug hooking, fabric making, and more. There's other interesting stores in Weston, but I believe this shop by itself makes this town worth a stop. But be aware that Florilegium is only open a few days a week (Thursday through Saturday when I visited), so consult their website or call before making a major trek here.
Even if you can't get here, visit them online! I very much appreciated that they didn't object to my taking dozens of photos in the store, which is one of my creative outlets!

My all time favorite store for yarn, fibers, and supplies for fiber artists. It's a beautiful store fun by a lovely woman. I thought I'd lost the store when they closed in Parkville, but recently found her in Weston thanks to a friend's invitation to a felting class. There is a great selection of fiber, yarn, wool and lots of projects on display for inspiration.
The shop owner is very helpful and knowledgeable about everything she sells. The shop has a real collaborative studio feel to it, very inviting with several comfy places to sit and create. Did I mention they offer classes on occasion. Our instructor was a very skilled felting artist and the class was great fun. We even enjoyed a lovely lunch prepared in the shop for us during our class. The only negative was the further distance from my home, but there is great fun to explore in Weston once I get there.
