In addition to our General Estates and Antiques Auctions, we provide specialty auctions at least once a month. For instance, for the past twenty years we currently have conducted an auction of oriental rugs every month. These auctions offer approximately 100 pretty new and semi - antique hand woven oriental rugs to our clients WITHOUT reserve. Every carpet is sold to the best bidder.

This was my first time as an absentee bidder at an art auction, and the experience could not have been any better! The pictures and descriptions were very accurate and the staff at Eldred's was a pleasure to work with. The UPS Store shipper they recommended also did a first rate job. It was a fabulous experience and I love my new painting. I will be back to bid again with confidence!

This is one ot the best auctions around, Eldreds is a great place to find an undiscovered treasure or a diamond in the rough. It is also a great place to sell because their commissions are the best available from an auction house. I imagine I sound like a rep from Eldreds but I am just a collector/ sometimes dealer that has been going to Eldreds for over 20 years.

On October 19th we placed two absentee bids for two oriental rugs included in the October 20th auction. The wording of the bids was decided with the help of Eldred staff and assisted by Robert C. Eldred. We were interested in both carpet runners, being sold in separate lots. We received a call on the morning of the auction to verify the intent. The first rug sold for more than our bid.
The second sold for much less than the amount we had bid. Needless to say we were confused and disappointed. When we called, the first staff person told us our bids were never registered. In a follow up call to, we were told that there was too much confusion. Neither staff member was very apologetic and the second one claimed that they never make a mistake like this.
We pointed out that if they had included our much higher bid, the auction house would have received a larger amount for the item. So, first, don't trust their paperwork if you submit an absentee bid. Second, if you consign an item to Eldred's for auction, there is no assurance that you will receive the most for your item.
