Boy are you right. I've seen them look at absentee bids, and tell the bidder, "you can go higher". The old, greedy, grumpy owner told me how one of their many "plants" blew a $40k rare typewriter, by stopping his bidding, too soon. Stuff for the "plants"? Well, let's just say he certainly doesn't upstage it, and the bidding ends quicker than you can say "yup"!
If he doesn't like you, as a bidder, he drags the bidding on, while telling everyone how much it "books" for. I've seen lots of shady things go on, over there. He was in charge of selling rare, Indian artifacts, for Waterloo Village. Funny. certain, very expensive items went missing, while the stuff they were auctioning were just souvenirs, made in China. He's got every politician, in his back pocket. Involved with crazy real estate deals, to. Be careful of Teels.
