Services
As a native New Mexican, Steve Elmore has been influenced by a grandeur and beauty that is unique unto the Southwest. It was at the end of the 1980s, while on visit back home to Carlsbad, NM from New York, NY, that Steve purchased his first large collection of Native American art; this would prove to be both a road of reconnection as it was a new beginning.
Here you will find all the pottery by Nampeyo the gallery currently has available. Nampeyo (1856-1942) is the matriarch of modern Hopi pottery and is credited with single-handedly reviving the pottery tradition at Hopi. She began her career as a traditional, tribal potter in the 1870s in Northern Arizona, at the Tewa village on First Mesa at Hopi.

I stopped by Steve Elmore Indian Art with my mother yesterday. She loves native art and is an avid collector. She fell in love with a vintage ring that had a Zirconium gem in the center. Carla, the wonderful lady who works there was fantastic. She explained each gem in the ring, and how it's cut. My mother wanted to replaced the Zirconium with a diamond in an old earring she has, and Carla even offered the services of their silversmith. 10/10 recommend. Prices are fair, and the service is amazing. Carla and Steve really know what they're talking about.

I just bought my first piece of real art, and the experience couldn't have been better! As a first time buyer, walking into a gallery can be a daunting task, especially in Santa Fe. This was unlike any of the other galleries I've visited. Paul Elmore is knowledgeable, approachable, and extremely helpful to even the least informed, new collector. Knowing very little about local art except that I was looking for a tiny owl, he answered all my questions and helped me find a piece that I absolutely fell in love with! There was such a great variety of Native art, with something to fit any budget. I would definitely go back to find a perfect gift for someone, or another gift for myself!

Today I became an art collector! After law school I often wondered when I would start collecting art. Living in Philadelphia I wondered if I would go to an estate sale and find some dark, mysterious oil painting of horsemen hunting a fox. Would the passing of my grandmother endow me with a small Picasso sculpture? Nope. Grandma left me no Picasso and estate sales smell bad and rarely involve any art like I've seen at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
I began my art collection today at Steve Elmore Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I now own a lovely 1950's Cochiti pottery fish. His sad expression makes me think that he is an ancient Zoloft creature and I couldn't be more delighted. At the gallery, Paul Elmore told me about every piece that caught my eye, happy to pull anything I liked out of the glass cabinets so I could get a better look.
I asked about getting started with Native American art collecting and he let me know that it had little to do with spending a certain amount of money, and a lot to do with finding something I could truly adore. With that philosophy I started looking into the cases and this little fish immediately jumped out at me. As soon as he was in my hands I knew that I was about to become a serious art collector. www.elmoreindianart.com
